Genesis Twelve

G

Father God, we pray that You would develop in us the sensitivity to hear Your voice. Call us out of our places of comfort by the power of the Holy Spirit. We know that You don’t always reveal the entire itinerary of where You are leading us. Help us to have the confidence to move even when we don’t always know where we are following You.

Holy Spirit, help us to develop a relationship of intimate trust with You and remain dependent on You. May we remember that we need to constantly come back to a place of worship to hear Your voice and that a deep abiding relationship with You is our ultimate blessing. As You bless us, may we become conduits of Your blessings to others around us.

Lord Jesus, may we believe that You are the seed of Abraham through whom all peoples of the world are blessed because of faith in You. May we see the foretelling of Your story in Abraham’s story. You left heaven, the ultimate place of comfort and security, to come to a place where Your service and influence was most needed. You did not shy away from investing in us and dying for us even to Your own immediate detriment.

While it might have been easier to travel with a smaller group of people, Abraham did not shy away from taking all the people he had influenced with him. May we be willing to leave our places of comfort and security for You so that our lives would point to You.

Show us, Lord Jesus, how to be invested and intentional in leading others, especially the next generation into Your promises and leave the final outcomes to You. Teach us to build altars of worship to You as we travel along life’s journey with You. Remind us that these altars are places of encounter, sacrifice, and communion. May we never take any of these aspects of worship for granted.

Holy Spirit, help us to not doubt Your voice of instruction when we are tested with adversity in the place of promise and the land of Your leading. Teach us to rely on Your provision and protection above all else. May we never put anyone else in places of compromise or harm to save our own skins.

Father God, we confess our collective under-developed fledgling faith in You. Keep us and those who we encounter from pleading ignorance before You because of it. Show us that while we may be lied to in thousands of ways on a daily basis, we are still responsible for making full inquiries and finding out the whole truth about who or what we welcome into our lives.

Father, Son, and Spirit, make it abundantly clear to us that we cannot simply fall back on the traditions and conditions we were raised in to live half-heartedly before You. Help us to see that the half-truths we allow to be sown in our lives can yield a full harvest of unwanted consequences if we are not careful. Remind us that faith in You alone is what redeems and preserves us!
