Genesis Eleven

G

Father God, we come before You today and ask for Your forgiveness. We confess that all our attempts to be united with each other have had the common goal of exalting our own name rather than exalting Your name. Help us to see that there is no such thing as neutral ground. Either we remain in You or are separated from You, either we are for You or against You, either we follow You or depart from You.

Lord Jesus, may Your name alone be exalted and lifted high. May we use the wisdom, knowledge, and understanding that You give us to glorify Your name. May Your kingdom come and Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Be the fulcrum and the foundation for all our building and boasting.

Holy Spirit, show us that You alone can unite us with each other by Your power. Without You, all efforts at unity are frustrating attempts at futility that will one day come to nothing. While we may experience superficial oneness with each other and find common ground on surface issues, help us see that we will always lack depth in foundational values as we aim to reach higher and go farther without You. Keep us deeply rooted and grounded in You and Your word as we build Your kingdom here on earth.

Lord Jesus, When You inspect the work of our hands, may it be pleasing and acceptable in Your sight. May all our work be a sacred offering to You. Bless it so that we can use it to bless others even more than it blesses us. Frustrate our plans, our work, and our goals and keep us from any progress that denies Your name and Your power.

Father God, may we see Your unseen hand at work when it seems like nothing is happening for days, weeks, months, and years on end. As You set apart the ancient line of Shem to call out Abraham and Sarah, set us apart to call us out and use all the circumstances that surround our lives for Your glory and for our good.

Holy Spirit, open wide our spiritual eyes to pay close attention when You name women in Your word. Remind us that Your redemptive plan for holiness and wholeness as You prepare and call out a royal priesthood, a holy nation, and a peculiar people includes both men and women. Forgive us for the generational lack of understanding, the subsequent abuse, and consequential manipulation we have perpetrated on each other in Your name for centuries on end.

Father, Son, and Spirit, help us to see that when You move, You move Your people. Keep us from pride and help us to see that we don’t always get to where You’ve called us on our own. Remind us also that we will always have good reasons to stop our journey before we get to the final destination that You intended for us. May we depend on Your voice alone for all our steps!
