Genesis Forty-five

G

Holy Spirit, give us wisdom to submit to the revelation of Your truth the first time we encounter it. Keep us humble so that we don’t have to be put through the paces to learn things the hard way. Sometimes we suffer for righteousness, but very often we are simply living out the consequences of sin in our life.

Father God, give us a right view of Your sovereignty. Teach us to humble ourselves and respond to discipline knowing that You discipline whom You love. You never cause us to sin and You don’t need our disobedience to accomplish Your purposes. Redeem our sin and sorrow and help us to go and sin no more with Your grace.

Lord Jesus, help us to trust You in every circumstance. We know that we sometimes find ourselves in exile for the preservation of our life and the lives of generations yet to come. Only You know how all things will eventually work out. Give us Your peace and Your patience as we wait to see Your plans unfold.

Father God, may we understand that unless we come to You under Your terms, we will end up with the wrong inheritance. We want a godly inheritance from You for ourselves and our children and our children’s children. You alone are the source of all our sustenance. Help us to be unashamed when we declare how precious You are.

Lord Jesus, when You reconcile us to Yourself, You give us garments of praise instead of a spirit of despair. You clothe us in Your righteousness. Help us to see that we cannot be adequately reconciled to anyone here on earth unless we are first reconciled to our Father through You. Keep us from anger and disbelief while we are still digesting all of this.

Holy Spirit, show us how to make good spiritual investments in our children. When we care enough to honor them by teaching them about You and Your ways in their youth, the same honor benefits us in our old age. We pray for every parent who has ever lost a child to anything and whose hearts are sick from hope deferred. Be their source of hope, peace, comfort, and joy as You fulfill the desires of their heart for their children.

Lord Jesus, You are still alive. Help us to live joyfully in the hope of Your second coming and keep us from doubting what You said You will do. There will be a day when we can no longer trust our ears because we have become desensitized to so many lies. That day is already here. So open wide our eyes, both physical and spiritual, and help us to respond to Your truth.

Father, Son, and Spirit, help us realize that what we see and hear influences what we believe and think. Show us how believing lies for years on end will weaken our heart to the point of not recognizing Your truth when it is finally presented to us. Help us to guard our heart and establish it in Your word alone. You alone are the Truth!
