Ephesians Five

E

Lord Jesus, we pray that we would look to You as an example as we live lives that are free from all impurity, immorality, and immoderation. May this freedom from sin extend to all aspects of our thoughts, words, and deeds. Help us to live with sacrificial love for You and for our neighbors, with thankfulness to our Father, and with light-filled lives lived by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Holy Spirit, shine Your light into the dank and dark corners of our hearts to first expose our own evil deeds. Disinfect our lives from all uncleanness as You fill us and guide our lives so that we consistently point to Jesus and bear fruit of the light which is goodness, righteousness, and truth. Show us clearly what is pleasing to You and lead us to only walk where You want us to and talk when You want us to.

Deliver us from the fear of missing out anything here on earth, so that we don’t miss out on our inheritance of the Kingdom of Christ and of God. Show us what an undefiled, imperishable, and unfading inheritance in Christ looks like, so that we are not fooled by cheap, corrupt  imitations of reaping what we sow to satisfy our sinful natures with our disobedience to our Father.

Help us to live as those who are wise and save us from our own foolishness. Keep us from casually cavorting with sin and returning to it over and over again as a dog returns to its own vomit. May the worship of our hearts be consistent with the worship of our mouths as we constantly thank God our Father for everything in the name of Jesus!

Father God, You ordained marriage from the very beginning to be a relationship that was lived out here on earth in relationship with You. Help us to see that without the work of Your Spirit in our marriages, they are doomed to fail.

Holy Spirit, guide our marriages so that we can live as husbands and wives in mutual submission to truly love and respect one another out of true submission, love, and respect for Christ. May the mystery and unity of our married lives as husbands and wives within the body of Christ ultimately point to the way in which Jesus and the Church are one.

Lord Jesus, You are our example because You gave Your life for us, the Church, doing this so that You can present us glorious, holy, without fault, without spot, wrinkle or blemish to Yourself. May we be blessed abundantly in our marriages with the fruit of Your Spirit as we grow together in You. May our marriages on earth be the foreshadowing of the ultimate marriage supper of the Lamb that is yet to come. – Amen!
