Genesis Twenty-nine

G

Holy Spirit, thank You for leading us directly to places where we need to be in Your will. We pray that this would be especially true for our marriages as some of us wait for the right person to come into our lives. Teach us to trust Your providence as You work to anoint and sanctify us while we wait.

Father God, thank You for establishing marriage as a covenant from the very first chapter in Your word. We know that You are rooting for those of us who are married. Our marriages point to a bigger story of the love of Christ for His Church. Give us patience to be the spouses we need to be wherever You have placed us. Help us to be successful in serving You together.

Lord Jesus, You are the Rock of ages and we trust You to keep us in perfect peace as we fix our attention on You. You are the only one who offers us living water, satisfying every thirst and saving our lives. Remind us that we have no other access to this water unless we go through You.

Holy Spirit, we pray that You would convict us to be people of Your word and our own word. May our ‘yes’ be ‘yes’ and our ‘no’ be ‘no.’ Bring people who exemplify the same character in our lives. Keep us from deceiving people and then justifying it with our customs and traditions.

Father God, teach us to value what You value. May we do the right thing even when we have been wronged. If someone has hurt us, keep us from using it as an excuse to hurt ourselves and others. Remind us that all our wrong is ultimately against You. We know You can still intervene and make something good come out of the tragedies of our life.

Lord Jesus, help us to pay close attention to Your word when You start naming women. A redemptive story is being written out especially when we come across women who are being treated with less significance. We thank You for using both men and women as part of Your greater story.

Holy Spirit, keep us from taking each other for granted as image-bearers. May we see Your creativity imprinted in everyone and learn to appreciate them for who they are. Give us Your eyes to see loneliness in hearts, even when they seem to be surrounded by people. Remind us also that we are never alone because we have You as a constant companion.

Father, Son, and Spirit, comfort those among us who have never been someone’s first choice. When we feel unnoticed, remind us that You notice us, remember us, and yearn passionately for us. In the absence of those who should be with us, You make us fruitful, hear our cries, bless us with Your presence, and give us words of praise because we look to You. More than anyone else, may we never take You for granted.
