Genesis Thirty-seven

G

Holy Spirit, we come before You today asking for Your help to make ourselves at home in Your Word and Your promises. Bless us as we do Your will even when our life looks strange to those who don’t know You. Use our lives in the purposes of God. Give us the wisdom to know when, where, and with whom we should or shouldn’t share the revelation that You give us.

Father God, lead us as we parent our children and give us the opportunity to influence them for Your kingdom. When we see something in Your word that appears strange, give us Your insight to see a deeper revelation. Keep us from wanting to interpret Your word based on our own morality and experience.

Lord Jesus, keep us from deceit and hate even when we see something unfolding in ways that we don’t understand. When we are hated for doing something right, help us to remember that You went through the same thing. Give us the sensitivity to discern between right and wrong and a holy boldness to speak out against evil even when it costs us something. One day, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that You alone are Lord. May we be zealous to establish Your kingdom and Your rule in our hearts and on this earth.

Holy Spirit, keep us from being jealous about what we know to be true out of rebellion. Help us to ponder what we don’t understand in Your word, rather than just reject it completely. Remind us that You know all things and that there are no gray areas in Your wisdom. Keep others who don’t know You yet from arriving at the wrong conclusions about You because of our shortcomings.

Father God, help us to live congruent lives so what we think, say, and do all line up with Your will for us. Keep us from living hypocritical lives, one way in front of people and another way behind closed doors. Remind us that there is no place that we can hide from Your presence regardless of where we find ourselves in life.

Lord Jesus, help us to see that thoughts of unreconciled hate and jealousy usually turn into action. The enemy of our souls comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but You come so that we can have life more abundantly. Keep us from joining the enemy to destroy what You want to accomplish in us because we don’t know Your word.

Meet us in our dreams, Lord, and help us to understand that You are trying to establish Your kingdom, not ours. Help us to see the foreshadowing of Your life in the life of Joseph. Remind us that You often lead us down hard paths when You use us to accomplish Your purposes.

Holy Spirit, keep us from having half-baked good intentions followed by insufficient actions. Help us to be quick to do the right thing when it is in our power to help. May we participate in Your work through obedience even in the face of inconvenience and misunderstanding. Give us Your perspective when we don’t understand unnecessary tragedy and spare us from unnecessary grief.

Father, Son, and Spirit, remind us that our current troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory yet to be revealed. Live through our broken lives as we carry Your glorious light. Help us to fix our eyes not on what is seen, but unseen as we point to You alone.
